PH 3/2 Academy chandelier – an extravagant designer product

This three-bulb chandelier with lampshades made of hand-blow, three-layered opal glass stands out thanks to both its very timeless design and its familiar yet timeless shape. The light is predominantly directed downwards, with the sand-blasted, matt interior of the lampshades serving to create a very harmonious lighting atmosphere. The glass has a glossy exterior.

The design with the reflective three-layer lampshades was created by the designer Poul Henningsen back in 1925/26 and led to a series containing a total of 19 models; three of which were outdoor lights. The lights, which originally featured metal lampshades, inspired the creation of thousands of different models.

Henningsen did not just make a name for himself as a creator of glare-free lights; he was also a renowned architect, writer and journalist. He was one of the key cultural figures in Denmark in his time. Henningsen worked with the lighting company Louis Poulsen from 1925 until his death in 1967. This company agreed upon the basic principle of “form following function”. In other words, the products do not get their shape from visual cues, but rather from the light that they generate to create shapes.
