Tips for driveway lighting

For a comprehensive lighting concept, good planning and professional installation are essential to ensure the desired level of comfort and optimum safety later on.

Using motion detectors

The motion detector switches the light on as soon as a car approaches, making it easier to find your way around. As the light switches off automatically, energy is saved. For driveways, the detection angle should be selected so that the neighbouring property is not covered.

Ensure freedom from glare

To ensure that wall luminaires do not dazzle drivers, luminaires with a diffuser should be selected for the garage entrance. The light source is therefore not directly visible. Wall luminaires that emit light downwards and/or upwards are also possible.

Using recessed floor lights correctly

It is important for recessed floor luminaires in the driveway area that they can be driven over. Information on the maximum load capacity can be found in the respective product details. The electrician knows what to look out for when burying the underground cables and making the connections.

Install path lights correctly

The higher the light points, the larger the light cone and the greater the distance between the individual path luminaires may be. As a rule, path lights are between 60 and 150 cm high and it is recommended that the light areas touch each other in order to achieve comprehensive illumination

Utilising the advantages of solar lights

Solar lights reduce electricity costs and cables are a thing of the past. A motion detector is recommended for solar lights, as this only switches the light on when needed, which increases the battery life. Separate solar panels should be positioned so that they are not covered by hedges or shrubs.

Converting to LED lamps and light sources

LED lamps reach 100 % brightness immediately after switching on and are therefore ideal for motion detectors. They also save up to 90 % energy compared to incandescent lamps and are virtually maintenance-free thanks to a service life of up to 50,000 hours and high switching resistance.
