Designer table lamp The Globe from 1964 The fact that the table lamp The Globe from the traditional Italian company Oluce was created in the 1960s really doesn't show. It looks so modern and unusual that it could undoubtedly also be considered a contemporary design. Joe Colombo, one of the most talented Italian designers of the 60s, designed The Globe in 1964. His vision was always a forward-looking one. He focussed on what might be important to us in the future, what our world might look like. Science fiction and utopias were always in his thoughts when he designed everyday objects. This is probably also the reason why his designs, such as this table lamp, seem so modern to us today. The spherical, transparent glass of The Globe is mouth-blown and attached to a metal structure with a satin nickel finish, which can sometimes appear almost anthracite, depending on the incidence of light.
