Patera designer hanging light with a great lighting effect

When switched off, the Patera hanging light exudes a simple, modern look that can be integrated into many interior styles. The lampshade comprises numerous small elements, which look like the cells of an organism thanks to their shape. As soon as the light is switched on, a fascinating lighting effect is created with each individual cell lighting up. The emitted light is directed mostly downwards; with a small part shining upwards towards the ceiling. The result is a very atmospheric ambience.

Patera has been designed by Danish designer Øivind Slaatto, who has a degree in design and is also a professionally trained musician. He believes that design should be like a piece of music being played – it should be an easy, light experience.

It was Slaatto’s love of nature that inspired Patera. He is especially interested in the appearance of the Fibonacci sequence in the plant world; in a sunflower for example.

This mathematical rule – named after Leonardo da Pisa (known as Fibonacci), an important Italian mathematician from the Middle Ages – describes a sequence of natural numbers, which begins with two ones and sees each subsequent number equating to the sum of the previous two numbers. The leaves and other parts of many plants are arranged in spirals in line with this sequence, and this pattern results in the optimum luminous efficiency, thus providing the best growth.

A hanging light that clearly fits with the guiding principle of the lighting company Louis Poulsen, and one that aims to create an attractive ambience through the provision of light in its most ideal form.
