Organic-looking designer pendant light Patera – Ø 45 cm

This unique pendant light features a spherical lampshade with numerous tiny diamond-shaped cells and was designed by Øivind Slaatto. The Danish designer is guided by his natural sensitivity to light and seeks inspiration in nature. He is especially interested in the Fibonacci sequence, which can be seen in sunflowers, for example.

The Fibonacci sequence describes the natural sequence of numbers in which the first two numbers are a one and the subsequent number is always equivalent to the sum of the previous two numbers. In the case of plants, the Fibonacci sequence can often be seen in the arrangement of the leaves. They often feature spirals of leaves, grouped around the stem – a configuration which achieves the best luminous efficiency. The Patera pendant light has been designed in line with this principle, so that each and every cell captures the light and screens the light bulb at an angle of over 45°. Each individual cell is illuminated. The cells have an opening angle of less than 45 degrees and direct the light downwards. A small proportion of the light is also directed upwards and shines against the ceiling.

This light perfectly exemplifies the philosophy of the manufacturer Louis Poulsen, which states that products are not given a particular shape for its own sake but rather for the purpose of forming the emitted light.
