Doo-Wop hanging lamp with attractive double lampshade
The Doo-Wop hanging lamp is a design classic from the 1950s. Back then it was created by the Louis Poulsen company in conjunction with the Danish Navy’s building department. It was used in many spaces, predominantly in canteens and offices. As such, it was also referred to as the Navy pendant light.
Its prominent lighting properties, with glare-free light that shines both upwards and downwards, made it an especially popular light source, which the Louis Poulsen company continued to sell until the 1980s.
The inner, conical lampshade emits the light directly downwards, while the outer lampshade directs the light upwards and downwards to create a soft lighting atmosphere. Just as at the start of its success story, Dpo-Wop's llampshades are made by hand and fitted with a finely rolled edge to give the lampshades special volume.
There is no doubt that the new versions of Doo-Wop in the colours brass (2012) as well as copper and stainless steel (2017) will make an equally lasting impression.
