It was inaugurated in 1963 and designed by Arne Jacobsen in a modernist architectural style that contrasts with the classical architecture of the surrounding Oxford University. Originally, the AJ Oxford Table Lamp was designed as a permanently installed luminaire for the impressive dining hall of the college.
