Designer LED floor lamp Wo-Tum-Bu 2 with dimmer - handmade from Japan paper

The cocoon-like designed LED floor lamp Wo-Tum-Bu 2 is one of the lamps from the famous MaMo Nouchies collection, which Ingo Maurer created in 1998 together with the designer Dagmar Mombach. All lamps of this collection have one thing in common: an elaborately crafted shade made of thin Japanese paper. It takes several work steps until the organic-looking lampshade finally has its final shape. The delicate paper is left in its natural state. It is pulled, folded and shaped by hand until the conical shape of the shade is perfect. The processing method is based on a traditional Japanese textile dyeing technique and is even protected by a patent. Although all shades look the same, every single lamp is unique.

The characteristic umbrella of the Wo-Tum-Bu 2 is based on a massive concrete base, which stands in strong contrast to the thin paper umbrella. Irrefutable and heavy, it guarantees the safe standing of the floor lamp. Nevertheless, not only the sensitive shade should be treated with extreme care, but also the concrete base. The concrete must not come into contact with greases such as those contained in hand creams or other liquids in order to avoid discoloration. The luminaire must also be kept away from rooms with high humidity. The shade must never be cleaned with a damp cloth. It is recommended that you only use a feather duster or brush to remove dust.

In creating the MaMo Nouchies, Maurer and Mombach were inspired by the Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi. Always fascinated by paper as a material, Maurer created his own collection of paper lamps, which he based on a no less elaborate processing method than Noguchi once used for his lamps. From the trio of the names Maurer, Mombach and Noguchi, the word creation "The MaMo Nouchies" was ultimately created.
