Foscarini Rituals - hanging light made of handblown glass

The filigree glass finish of the hanging light Rituals and their belly shape create associations with traditional Japanese paper lamps, which are still used today at Japanese festivals or processions or as decorative objects in front of restaurants or temples. The designer couple Ludovica + Roberto Palomba took over this oriental character and interpreted it in a modern way when designing the Rituals series of lights using high quality, handblown glass.

The nebulous glass body of the hanging light Rituals from Foscarini is covered with a fine horizontal cutting pattern that gives the cool, hard material a soft and gentle appearance. The light shining through the glass body is also warm and harmonious, making Rituals the perfect light source for cosy hours.

In the production of the glass shade a special blowing technique is used, in which the glass is not turned in the mould. The striped pattern is created by negative decorations in the mould which are reflected in the surface of the glass. The fine polishing is done by hand before the glass is finally dipped into acid to achieve the gypsum effect that makes the Rituals family of lights unique.
