Flexible designer floor lamp Poppy with fascinating petalsUlrich Beckert and Georg Soanca-Pollak are a designer duo whose projects are dedicated to interior design and lighting design. Together with designer Peter Thammer, the three of them have designed a series of luminaires whose development required not only creativity but also knowledge of physics. The aim was to go one step beyond the limits of what has gone before and to inspire and fascinate with their product at the same time. And the trio has undoubtedly succeeded in this endeavour! Poppy is a floor lamp of a special kind. First of all, its three manoeuvrable arms, which almost seem to have a life of their own, catch the eye. It is precisely this effect that makes Poppy so lively and so lively. A textile sheath conceals the flexible arms made of metal, which are responsible for Poppy's mobility and which make her light so incredibly variable. The luminaire is kept in beige and ceramic tones, yet it does not lose any of its elegance and style. But the three designers have saved the special highlight for the lamp heads themselves. When Poppy is switched off, you can see bulbous bodies made of mouth-blown glass and metal slats attached to them, which, when viewed together with the glass body, make the shades look like the buds of a plant. If you switch on Poppy's light, you can see how the petals suddenly start to move. Gradually they unfold and bend apart more and more. They literally make room for the light that wants to come out from inside the glass body. What has happened here? The heat from the bulbs has caused the bimetallic lamellae to expand and thus open up the flower. A phenomenal effect when you consider what simple components are needed to achieve this. Poppy - a fascinating designer floor lamp with a special effect!
