Tizio LED table lamp - a revolutionary design icon
Even if you can’t tell by looking at the table lamp, Tizio is a veteran and a classic of interior lighting. Designed in the early 1970s, the table lamp is still completely up-to-date today with its open, functional design. It is still one of the best-selling items produced by the Italian manufacturer Artemide.
Tizio was designed by Richard Sapper - a product designer who has been influential in a number of fields, from interior design to information technology. He was born in Munich and has used his creativity and visionary concepts at many well-known companies, such as Mercedes-Benz, IBM, Fiat and Siemens. Some of Sapper's creations are regarded as milestones of design art and can be admired at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, for example.
A characteristic feature of the Tizio table lamp is the counterweights that maintain the balance of the construction. The sections of the frame and the head can be tilted freely so that the height, depth and light outlet can be freely adjusted. The power supply for the LEDs is also innovative. The power is supplied via conductive elements in the frame, which means that you will search in vain for visible cables – apart from the plug cable. The switch is located on the base. It also acts as a dimmer and rounds off the Tizio table lamp from a functional point of view.
