Modern classic: Eclisse table lamp by Vico Magistretti

The table lamp Eclisse with its spherical shapes and the expressive colouring not only looks like a model from the 1960s, it actually comes from that time. Vico Magistretti designed this small table lamp in 1965 and received the Compasso d'Oro for it in 1967. Today, Eclisse belongs to the modern classics or to the Masters' Pieces by Artemide.

The special thing about Eclisse is not only its time of origin, but also its mode of operation, which reflects its name, namely an eclipse, i.e. a solar or lunar eclipse. The shade is designed so that the outer hemisphere is complemented by an inner one. This inner, white hemisphere can be turned, so that the illuminant and thus also the light can be shielded sometimes half, sometimes almost completely or not at all. This means that the table lamp can provide both direct and more or less indirect light.

The designer, architect and urban planner Vico Magistretti worked for the Italian company Artemide during his lifetime. Artemide is one of the world's best-known manufacturers of designer lamps. Own production facilities, glass factories and an own innovation and research centre form the basis for the success of Artemide lights, in addition to the renowned national and international designers.
