Modern classic in new shiny colours: Eclisse table lamp by Vico Magistretti

Even though the Eclisse table lamp is without a doubt one of the classics among designer lamps today, its spherical, monochrome design certainly reveals that it is actually a child of the 1960s. It was designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965 and was awarded the Compasso d'Oro, Italy's most famous industrial design prize, two years later. Now Artemide has brought out new editions of the popular model in further colours.

Eclisse stands out not only for its classic look, but especially for the way it works. It has a kind of mechanical dimmer built in. In the hemisphere of the lamp head there is a second, smaller sphere, which can be turned and thus pushed more or less in front of the opening of the outer sphere. Thus, you can vary the intensity of the light and you can also influence whether you get more direct or indirect light.

The Italian designer and architect Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) worked during his lifetime beside Fontana Arte, Oluce, Fritz Hansen and Kartell also for the today worldwide known designer lamp manufacturer Artemide. Own production facilities, glass manufactories and an own innovation and research center form the basis for the success of the Artemide lamps, in addition to the renowned national and international designers.
