Light for the light maker

Light for the light maker

Interview: THOMAS REBMANN | Founder of Lights.co.uk

Thomas Rebmann is the founder of Lights.co.uk - since 1999. Thanks to above-average growth, the company now has an online presence in 18 countries and has developed into Europe's leading online specialist for lamps and luminaires, offering professional lighting solutions as well as the leading international design brands.

**What is the mission of Lampenwelt?

"Our mission is to improve people's quality of life and well-being through good light. The right lighting consists of more than just brightness. Of course, it is important that the light is adapted to the activity. But it can also completely transform rooms, create a needs-based ambience, generate emotions and, last but not least, inspire with the design of the luminaire. We want to inspire our customers to take advantage of these opportunities and, last but not least, always offer exactly the right product for their individual needs and tastes."

**What effect do designer luminaires achieve?

"In the hands of a designer, light comes to life. He brings fresh ideas to the design. He often becomes active because he has the feeling that the market is missing something. In this way, new designs are constantly being created and the light is increasingly becoming a way for customers to realise themselves within their own four walls. The living space is filled with creativity, imagination and a warm and above all individual atmosphere. The customer enjoys refined details and special comfort. Just think of the works of Ingo Maurer, the breathtaking designs by Dima Longinoff for Axolight or multi-talent luminaires, e.g. by FLOS, which also have a shelf for a notebook and a USB port."

**How strongly does progress in lighting technology influence design?

"LED in particular has had a major influence on luminaire design. Thanks to this technology, completely new luminaire shapes are now possible, e.g. flat LED panels or very delicate geometric shapes. Of course, improved energy efficiency and durability are also important factors for a more sustainable approach to our environment. Thanks to LED, we can look forward to countless other design highlights - and technology never stands still, even when it comes to luminaires."

**Which style do you particularly like?

"Personally, I'm very open when it comes to styles. However, I prefer modern, high-quality lights with a certain element of surprise. Today, permanently installed LEDs allow breathtaking, innovative designs that I love to be inspired by. But I also think a certain wink in the design is great. I also have a penchant for Italian and Scandinavian classics."

"It is no exaggeration to say that with designer lights, customers are buying a product that will accompany them for decades."

**What special added value does a genuine designer light offer?

"It is no exaggeration to say that the customer is buying a product that will accompany them for decades. The high quality of a Luceplan luminaire by Paolo Rizzatto or the Danish luminaire manufacturer Le Klint, for example, contributes to long-term value retention. This means that design classics are always sustainable products too."
