FAQ: Frequently asked questions about bed lighting
The bed can be illuminated in the classic way with bedside lamps. These are available in a wide variety of styles, designs and facets. It is also possible to illuminate the headboard with LED strips mounted behind it - for cosy indirect lighting. Light strips can also be glued to the bed base - along the entire length of the bed. Smart controllable versions are available via app control or remote control. If they are installed at the bottom of the bed, they can also be fitted with motion detectors to automatically provide softly dimmed, indirect light when going to the toilet at night. If you want to save space on the bedside table in another way, wall lamps at the head of the bed are a good idea. The range extends from models with plugs and switches through permanently installed models to clamp and socket lights. Wall lamps with swan necks ensure that the light can be individually directed.
Using only a ceiling light as general lighting in the bedroom is not enough. For one thing, it is usually too bright for cosy evening hours before going to sleep. Secondly, it cannot usually be controlled from bed. And who wants to get up and go to the light switch again when they're tired and put the book aside? Bed lighting, on the other hand, can be operated from the bed. Either by switch, gesture control, touch dimmer, remote control, smartphone app, voice assistant or smart light switch. Another advantage: indirect light around the bed can provide peace and relaxation. A warm white light colour with the option of dimming also ensures a cosy atmosphere. And luminaires that provide directional light thanks to the gooseneck bring just the right amount of light to the magazine page that is needed for reading - without casting shadows.
For LED lighting under the bed or on the headboard, it is practical to use LED strips. These are simply mounted using adhesive tape, which is already provided on the light strips supplied. To do this, simply remove the protective film from the back of the LED strip and stick it to the previously cleaned, dry area. To ensure that everything fits perfectly, LED strips can be shortened with scissors at the points marked for this purpose. If you want to place them around the corner, for example around the bed base, it is best to work with connecting pieces for a clean and long-lasting solution. This is because the strips can be flexibly bent, but not kinked. Once everything is glued, the transformer is connected and the power supply unit is plugged into the socket. Smart light strips, for example from Philips Hue, are now integrated into the smart lighting control system.
The LED strip, which is supplied rolled up by the metre, can be cut to size with scissors at the marked cut points to ensure precise lighting. In the next step, the protective film on the back of the strips is removed and attached to the bed using adhesive - on a previously well-cleaned surface. Once the strip has been fitted, it is connected to the transformer and the mains plug is plugged into the socket. Smart LED strips, for example from Philips Hue, are integrated into the smart home network in the next step - for full lighting enjoyment via smartphone app or voice assistant.
