The good old light bulb with E27 base: everyone knows it, but it has long since been banned from production. Their successors, halogen and energy-saving lamps with E27 sockets, made it possible: the old, cherished light could stay, even without a light bulb. As LED light sources easily beat halogen and energy-saving lamps in terms of service life and energy efficiency, they are now the light source of choice. And you can still keep your old light if you are attached to it. LED lamps are also available with an E27 base. Known under the term retrofit lamps.
Tip: As so-called filament retrofit light bulbs, they are even more similar to incandescent bulbs. This is because there is no noticeable visual difference apart from the filaments instead of the wire helix. Modern LED filaments make it possible.
Thomas Alva Edison is the man to whom the electric socket owes its name. The E27 base is one of the two standard bases for incandescent lamps. The E14 base is the other one. The "27" provides information about the diameter of the base: That's right - 27 millimetres.
E27 bulb with special features
Not all light sources are the same. There are huge differences. One lamp can only light up in one light colour, the next can change colour or is even smart-home-capable These special features are possible:
Dimmable
You need to clarify in advance whether the new lamp you want to screw into your luminaire is dimmable. Because not every light source can do that. However, this is noted in the product details in our shop. If you want to dim, simply select the appropriate product.
Colour change
Can't decide on a colour? Then your lamp should be able to change colours. This gives you flexibility to suit your mood. Simply look up the term "light colour" in the product details. Here you can see what is possible - from warm white to daylight white and universal white to multicolour.
Controllable via app
Put together your personal dream lighting and control it via app? You can do this with Philips Hue What you need for this:
Now all you need to do - in this case - is switch on a Philips Hue light bulb and get started. Simply screw it into one of your lights with an E27 socket and it becomes a variable light source. Simply brilliant.
Remote control
Dimming, changing the light colour, automatic colour changes and lighting effects at the touch of a button? You can have that. Simply choose an E27 bulb with remote control and the cheerful light zapping can begin. iDual is a good example. The remote control works for all iDual lights and lamps, so you only really need one. But a remote control for each room is super practical - especially if you have several flatmates.
This can be seen in our shop in the product details: Length and diameter are indicated here. With the classic bulb shape, for example, the lamp can be 105 mm long and have a diameter of 60 mm. A candle lamp, on the other hand, can have a length of 90 mm and a diameter of 35 mm. This simply varies completely from light source to light source. So if you are restricted by your luminaire in terms of dimensions, you can plan ahead precisely.
Yes, they do exist, for example from E27 to E14. However, they are generally not VDE or TÜV tested or have no approval. Therefore, the safest, easiest and therefore best way is to simply get a suitable light source. We offer a good replacement for every old lamp in our shop.
