What characterises an antique/classic table lamp?

Most antique/classic table lamps are characterised by an ornate brass frame. The shiny metal is combined with a partially detailed glass shade. Cream-coloured textile umbrellas or smooth metal umbrellas are also popular.

Where are table lamps with an antique look used?

Antique and classic table lamps are a popular accessory on side tables, e.g. by the reading chair. They can also be found on the nightstand and as a prestige object on the desk. Typical of the latter is the Banker lamp with polished brass frame and green glass shade.

Where should an antique table lamp be placed on the desk?

Easily recognisable documents are the be-all and end-all at the desk! A desk lamp should be positioned on the left-hand side** for right-handers and on the right-hand side for left-handers to avoid disturbing shadows caused by your own hand.

Are there dimmable table lamps with an antique/classic look?

Authentic thinking: Antique and classic table lamps usually do without features such as a control panel for adjusting the brightness, as can be found on many modern LED table lamps.

However, it is possible to screw an LED light source with integrated dimming or smart home technology into the socket of the table lamp. The light can then be configured via smartphone. In addition to dimming, other functions are available depending on the selected light source, e.g. RGB colour change.
