hall spotlight

Why is good lighting with high bay spotlights so important?

Industrial spotlights have a direct impact on safety and productivity in the workplace. Hall spotlights make people, obstacles, conveyor belts, goods and machines easily recognisable so that work processes can be carried out more efficiently and the risk of accidents is reduced.

High-bay luminaires designed for industrial use also influence the ability to concentrate in rooms with limited daylight. Sober, universal white light from 4,000 Kelvin slows down the release of the hormone melatonin and thus counteracts tiredness.

What are the specifications for lighting with high bay spotlights?

The lighting of warehouses and logistics halls with high bay spotlights is regulated by ÖNORM EN 12464-1. These specify requirements for:

  • Illuminance depending on visual tasks and areas of activity
  • Lighting density, i.e. uniform illumination, e.g. also in spaces between shelves
  • Glare-free, i.e. avoidance of direct or reflected glare
  • Light colours and colour rendering for precise visibility of lettering and signs
  • Flicker-free light sources
  • Inclusion of daylight

Where are LED high bay spotlights used?

Companies are also increasingly turning to LED high-bay spotlights for industrial lighting. Compared to conventional light sources, LED technology is the most economical and ecological alternative. LED technology brings with it:

  • Lower energy costs: high bay floodlights light up for up to 24 hours a day. The LED version requires up to 60 % less energy for the same brightness, which equates to 60 % cost savings.
  • Longer service life: An LED high-bay floodlight shines for up to 100,000 operating hours. This reduces maintenance costs and the time needed to replace defective lamps. In comparison, the fluorescent lamp only achieved a maximum service life of 20,000 hours.
  • Robust against external influences: LED high bay spotlights generally have a high IK impact resistance, which is absolutely essential in industry.
  • No switch-on delay: In contrast to energy-saving lamps, LED high-bay spotlights reach 100 % brightness immediately. This significantly reduces the risk of accidents in areas equipped with motion detectors.

IP protection class

Do high-bay luminaires have a higher IP protection rating?

High-bay spotlights are constantly exposed to dust, dirt and moisture. For this reason, the lights are better protected and have an IP protection rating from IP65.

A higher degree of protection against temporary or constant immersion in water may be required in special cases. Here too, our professional lighting designers are on hand to advise you.
