Purchasing advice for solar wall lights

Energy-efficient lighting for your outdoor area

Whether as an exciting accent in the garden or as an orientation light around the house: solar lights are impressive! Especially in the case of solar wall lights, the uncomplicated installation on the façade and the avoidance of additional electricity costs is attractive. In addition to solar wall lights, path lights are also a popular choice for illuminating garden paths and driveways stylishly and safely.

How a solar wall light works

It also works without a power grid: solar wall lights convert sunlight into electrical energy via the photovoltaic effect. This is initially stored in an accumulator. When the twilight sensor then recognises the onset of darkness, it is released. In this way, not only house walls and paths, but also terraces can be illuminated efficiently and decoratively

Light sources used in a solar wall light

The solar wall light uses LED so that the rechargeable battery provides energy for as long as possible. This is because LEDs have a high luminous efficacy, meaning they convert watts into lumens better. This means that little energy is required for long-lasting, appropriate brightness.

Many solar wall lights are dimmable so that the light intensity can be adjusted as required. They also often provide a pleasant, warm white light that creates a cosy atmosphere in the outdoor area.

Lighting duration of solar wall lights

It all depends on the solar wall light. Most products light up for between 8 and 10 hours when the battery is fully charged. However, if it is cloudy during the day, the battery cannot fully charge. The light duration is then reduced.

By the way: As with other wall lights, a motion detector also saves electricity with the solar wall light or, in this case, conserves the battery. A solar wall light with motion detector lights up reliably for longer.

Optimal installation of a solar wall light

The solar module of the solar wall light must receive sufficient daylight. It is therefore advisable to orientate it to the south. For this reason, many products have a swivelling or external solar module.

You should also avoid it being covered by roofs and trees. Regular cleaning to remove dust and dirt ensures ideal light output.
