Where does the outdoor wall light belong? Right next to the entrance door. Because it takes more than 10 attempts to hit the keyhole. At the back by the patio door. In principle, you can of course use both in your outdoor wall lights. If it is equipped with a standardised socket, e.g. E27, both halogen and LED can be screwed in. But before you really decide between LED and halogen: pause for a moment, read the following lines and only then add the light sources to your shopping basket:
Yes, an outdoor wall light like this really doesn't have it easy. In winter it is exposed to snow and ice, freezing cold and whatever else makes it really uncomfortable. But constant changes in the weather, extreme heat or rain without end can also be very hard on it. To protect the sensitive electronics and the light itself, every outdoor wall light has a protection class, called IP (Ingress Protection) - e.g. IP44 or IP65.
However, the exact type depends on where the luminaire is suspended. And above all: to which weather influences it is directly or indirectly exposed. For this reason, it is unfortunately not possible to give a generalised answer regarding the necessary degree of protection and this must be decided on a case-by-case basis.
The first digit indicates protection against foreign bodies. The second digit, on the other hand, provides information about protection against moisture. You can easily find out which number stands for what in the following table:

Like many other outdoor lights, outdoor wall lights are now also equipped with integrated motion detectors. And that definitely makes sense. Why? Well, because that....
Our tip: It's better to steer clear of energy-saving lamps with motion detectors. They have a start-up time. And waiting for the light to switch on with motion detectors is really quite annoying and sometimes really dangerous. It is better to use LED lamps here. Like halogen and incandescent lamps, they immediately provide 100 % brightness!
You think: Solar \= luminous jam jar for the garden table and colourful decorative ball for the flower bed? Maybe a solar spotlight to light up the pretty flowers? So, are they actually only to be used purely decoratively? Wrong! Because solar technology today is a far cry from its beginnings. Our tip: It is best to always expose the solar module to direct sunlight. And ideally orientate it to the south. Is not possible at all? Then why not consider a solar outdoor wall light where the solar module is not permanently integrated into the light. This allows you to position the light where you need it. And the solar panel just round the corner, where more sunshine can reach it.
Upwards** and downwards**. Only downwards or only upwards. Or, if you prefer, in all directions. Are you wondering what that means? Quite simply. You alone decide how you want the outdoor wall light to illuminate your garden or house entrance. And there are the most different options for outdoor wall lights in particular. One of these is the light emission upwards and downwards.
