It's just nice when the area around the house doesn't completely disappear into darkness in the evening. After all, neither you nor your visitor want to be left in the dark and end up twisting your ankle, right? And potential burglars shouldn't have such an easy time under the cover of night. It is therefore advisable to illuminate the outdoor area in a functional and atmospheric way. With outdoor ceiling lights, for example. Preferably with a motion detector. Then you will always have light when you turn the corner.
In outdoor areas, ceiling lights are used wherever they can be installed. So where there is a ceiling, of course. These could be, for example:
Tip: To avoid having to search for a light switch for a long time, we recommend using a motion detector. The practical added benefit: Burglars don't like sudden, bright light at all.
You might actually think that you can hang a ceiling light wherever you like. Unfortunately, this is only partially true. This is because ceiling lamps must fulfil additional properties for outdoor use. They are the only ones that can be used outdoors: for example, they are specially protected against rain and dust.
Tip: The following table gives you an overview of which IP protection class guarantees what:
Digit IP4 X 4 | Protection against foreign bodies |
---|---|
0 | No protection |
1 | Protected against solid foreign bodies ≥ 50 mm |
2 | Protected against solid foreign bodies ≥ 12.5 mm |
3 | Protected against solid foreign bodies ≥ 2.5 mm |
4 | Protected against solid foreign bodies ≥ 1 mm |
5 | Dustproof |
6 | Dustproof |
Digit IP4 X | Protection against moisture |
---|---|
0 | No protection |
1 | Protected against vertically impinging dripping water |
2 | Protected against dripping water at an angle |
3 | Protected against water spray |
4 | Protected against splash water |
5 | Protected against water jets |
6 | Protected against strong water jets |
7 | Protected against temporary submersion |
8 | Protected against permanent submersion |
Do you want it to be light when you turn the corner? That is a justified demand. And it makes perfect sense for outdoor use. For outdoor ceiling lamps with integrated motion detector, simply select the appropriate filter in the shop and tick the box. You will then see all outdoor models with motion detectors in the results list.
Tip: Another option is to retrofit a motion detector.
And also note: To ensure that your motion detector does not switch on the light during the day, it is coupled with a twilight sensor as standard. This helps the luminaire to determine when it should provide light.
Do you find the topic of motion detectors really interesting? Then you'll want to know the technology behind it. And it's not always the same. Infrared motion detectors (IR) and high-frequency motion detectors (HF) are frequently used. IR sensors are often used outdoors, but they are somewhat slower. HF sensors detect almost any movement and are ideally suited for indoor use. HF sensors are rather unsuitable for outdoor use. However, there are already a few intelligent HF motion detectors that also work outdoors.
Tips for setting your motion detector: Simple motion detectors are already configured and no longer need to be set. Of course, there are also lights with motion detectors - as well as external motion detectors - where individual settings can be made. Possible settings are:
The advantages of LED are simply convincing across the board. You don't really need to differentiate between outdoor and indoor areas. In outdoor areas, there are additional factors that make LEDs almost indispensable: LEDs become 100 per cent bright as soon as they are switched on. If you think of a motion detector, that's a great feature. Because when you come round the corner in the dark, you want to benefit directly from the full brightness.
Further advantages of modern LED technology at a glance:
Do you have a very special colour in mind for your outdoor ceiling lamp? Anthracite, for example? Then take a look at what our shop has to offer in the colour of your choice. Simply select the "Colour" filter and tick what you want it to be. Incidentally, anthracite-coloured lights are really popular.
Stainless steel is a very popular material for outdoor lights - especially when it comes to robustness and a great look. The easiest way to find out what other materials are available is to use the filter in the shop. Simply select and tick the desired material.
