Mast lights and candelabra - Large luminaires for large lighting ideas

You will find pedestal lights and way lights really good. But: you already have them in your garden. And they are too small. Yes, too small. Because you want a large luminaire - for your big lighting ideas. And there is no other luminaire for you to consider than the imposing pole luminaire. Also called candelabra. With its height of over 2 metres, it is impressive, provides beautiful, glare-free light and a unique atmosphere - e.g. also really nice nostalgic in lantern form. Exactly what you want. Now it's time to choose one. And to put the lighting ideas into practice. With your new candelabra.

What connection does a candelabra need?

Well, a candelabra is connected to 230 volts / 50 hertz like a normal light. So: to the completely normal mains voltage. Nevertheless, we recommend that you always leave the electrical connection and professional installation to an expert. This saves work and nerves!

Do pole-mounted luminaires always need a foundation?

Well, there are different types of mast lights. Some can simply be installed on a tarmaced / concreted surface, for example. Others have to be embedded in the ground by means of a foundation** (e.g. commercial street lights).

However, if you want to install a pole light in the centre of your garden on an unpaved lawn**, you will also need a (small) foundation. But don't worry! You will also find information on the "type of installation" in the enclosed installation instructions.

In principle, however, it should always be ensured that pole-mounted luminaires can withstand the wind loads that occur. The local wind climate and, of course, the terrain topography must be taken into account. The area exposed to wind is also an important factor for some luminaires and should not be neglected.

The (point) foundation then ensures the safe standing of the luminaire.

You want to know a little more - because the new pole light is really exposed to all weathers in your garden? Then just pick up the phone or write a quick message. Our experts will help you - guaranteed! You can easily find the contact details a little further down._

How high should a mast light be?

Well, if you are responsible for lighting in public areas or perhaps you are the proud owner of a company and want to equip your greenery with candelabras - then, yes, the luminaire's mounting height is decisive. Because normative provisions must be fulfilled. In addition to other important points such as avoiding light immissions, improving the quality of living, safety aspects, accident prevention, reducing energy consumption, liability issues, night-time setback and so on. Lighting design is urgently recommended here.

However, when it comes to your very own, cosy little - or perhaps hugely large - personal garden, the actual height of the pole light plays a rather subordinate role. After all, what is the main focus of your own garden - including the candelabras? Correct. For you! Or rather your taste. And optically matching luminaires that you like and that can illuminate the narrow paths and areas appropriately. Of course, the lights in your garden should also be installed almost glare-free and not shine permanently into the neighbour's living room - but your taste is and remains the decisive factor in your garden.

And so that you can find exactly the right post light to suit you, your taste and your garden, candelabras are also available in the private sector in a wide range of heights. Candelabra with a height of 2 metres and more are very popular. But basically, a post-top luminaire only starts to be a post-top luminaire when its height exceeds 1.50 m. Anything below that is simply none. A pedestal light or a path light perhaps, but not a pole light.

And where can I see how high the candelabra is that I find so impressive, you think to yourself? It's very easy. Simply take a look at the product details.

What styles of candelabra are available?

Quite simply: in the style you like. Perhaps you prefer a 3-flame candelabra. In a really chic, nostalgic design. Oh, that always reminds you of street lamps from earlier centuries - when 1 or at most 2 horsepower still trotted leisurely through the streets. No, not really your cup of tea? Do you prefer to cruise through the streets with modern horsepower? Of course! For lovers of the puristic, futuristic or simply modern style, there is of course just the right thing - even for pole-mounted lights. And with 1-flame, 2-flame or 3-flame - just as you like it.

Our tip: The more arms the candelabra has - of course - the more light it can give you. But beware: it will of course have a larger diameter and will therefore need more space in the garden. You should definitely take this into account in your planning.

Where can pole-mounted luminaires be used?

In front of the house or behind the house. In the garden or on the paths in the garden. In the driveway or perhaps right next to the smart new garden shed. And so on and so forth. Basically, you can place your new post lights exactly where you want them. Provided: It is your property. You can place luminaires however you like. The situation is completely different in public areas such as car parks, the street or other public places. Private lighting has no place there.

But you should also be careful not to make yourself unpopular with your neighbours on your own property by using too much light or placing it in the wrong place - otherwise barbecues will soon be a thing of the past. Therefore, light immissions should be avoided and attention should be paid not only to your own well-being, but of course also to that of your neighbours!

Are you now mentally walking along your garden paths and asking yourself how exactly this could best be done in your garden? But a suitable answer - no, you don't really have one ready? Our_ specialist advice certainly already! Just write us a message_. You will find the contact details a little further down.

Are there candelabra with motion detectors?

Yes, of course they also exist. And what do I gain from the fact that my candelabra now has a motion detector, you ask? That's clear! With a motion detector....

  • it is simply much more practical. Light on when approaching. Not before, not after. And automatically switch off the light again when nobody is there.
  • it is simply much safer. Lights switch on automatically and stones, steps or a garden path that bends are seen in good time!
  • You save costs and do something good for the environment. Light really only when you need it.
  • makes life even more difficult for uninvited guests** and makes your own property that little bit more secure!

Our motion detector tips: It is better to avoid energy-saving lamps. The better choice: LED lamps. Similar to incandescent and halogen lamps in the past, these also provide 100 % brightness immediately. Tip no. 2: If you want all the lights in an area to light up at the same time or want to be absolutely sure that the area is optimally covered - then it is better to use external motion detectors!
