How should letterboxes be positioned?

The letterbox is usually mounted near the main entrance door with wall plugs on the wall. Installation under a canopy is recommended to protect the contents from the weather and moisture.

In order to comply with applicable standards, the dimensions of the letterbox slot and interior are based on a standard size C4 envelope. This means that important documents and subscribed magazines can be delivered without creasing.

A installation height of between 70 and 170 cm is also prescribed for homeowners. In addition to an acceptable posting height, you are obliged to allow access to the letterbox without difficulty, i.e. not to have any dogs running loose in the vicinity of the letterbox, for example.

If the guidelines are not complied with, the recipient may be excluded from delivery.

When it comes to the letterbox design itself, however, the homeowner is free to decide. In addition to the popular stainless steel letterboxes, anthracite-coloured models or nostalgic-looking versions are also available. Some letterboxes also have a separate newspaper compartment.

What alternatives are there to the wall-mounted letterbox?

In addition to wall-mounted letterboxes, there are also numerous free-standing letterboxes, which can be placed almost anywhere on the property using a stand. However, the guidelines described above also apply here.

Free-standing letterboxes are usually concreted onto a sufficiently large concrete foundation to withstand wind and weather. Other models with base plates are mounted with sturdy screw connections.

A protruding panelling is very advantageous in order to achieve optimum water protection for the post.

What are the advantages of stainless steel letterboxes?

Stainless steel letterboxes are a popular choice for homeowners and large residential complexes. The reasons are that stainless steel is less sensitive to corrosion, more stable, more temperature-resistant, easier to clean and, last but not least, always looks good.
