LED Lighting – New Lighting Technology

LED technology is highly modern, economical and, of course, environmentally friendly. This technology has become an integral part of the lighting world. And why? Because it offers so many compelling advantages that simply cannot be ignored.

  • Enjoy great savings with LEDs – these bulbs consume 90 percent less energy than traditional light bulbs

  • Is the environment close to your heart? This energy-saving lighting solution is completely mercury-free and, thanks to its long life, produces very little waste

  • Sick of constantly changing bulbs? It’s a thing of the past with long-life LEDs (up to 50,000 hours)

  • Immediate 100% brightness – this is ideal for lights with motion detectors. With LEDs, the lights shine at 100% brightness as soon as they are switched on

  • LED bulbs come in different colour temperatures, so they are suitable for all purposes

  • Smart lighting relies on LEDs, and offers fun, convenience and safety

How do LED bulbs work?

LED stands for “light-emitting diode”. They feature a semiconductor compound, which converts electrical energy into light. Modern LEDs are distinguished by their energy-efficiency and long service life. These advantages are especially important when it comes to protecting the climate and our environment. But it’s not just electricity that LEDs save when compared with other lighting technologies; they also drastically reduce waste because the bulbs rarely have to be replaced.

Which rooms are LEDs suitable for?

There’s no room that they don't work in. LED bulbs can and should be used for the entire outdoor area and indoor area of your home – from the bathroom and kitchen, to the living room and bedroom, to the hallway and staircase. There are so many compelling advantages to modern LED technology that there really is no area in or around the house that LEDs aren’t suitable for.

Which LED lights are available for indoors?

There are really no limitations when it comes to LED technology: if you want to illuminate your home with LEDs, you can enjoy a wealth of options. All of the lighting possibilities that you could possibly desire can be realised with modern LED technology – from ceiling lamps to decorative strip lights. See for yourself:

LED lighting ceiling light

LED ceiling lights
When it comes to lighting design, it’s best to start with general lighting – whichever room you are considering. It ensures that everything is evenly lit, so that you can get your bearings properly. An LED ceiling light can do this for you without issue. In fact, you'll be surprised to discover all of the colours, shapes, materials and styles that these lights come in.

LED lighting wall light

LED wall lights
LED wall lights also ensure proper general lighting in your living room. Extravagant designs are ideal for this light because they hang at eye level. This is what sets them apart – they are the real focal point of the room.

LED lighting spotlight

LED spotlights
LED spotlights are real all-rounders. They can either illuminate the entire room or focus on one spot, like on a painting. Depending on your individual needs and requirements, it can make sense to use either a one-bulb or a multi-bulb model. With a multi-bulb model, the room can be illuminated with pleasant lighting all angled in different directions.

LED lighting pendant light

When you think of these lights, the dining room table immediately comes to mind. No other place in the home is better suited for an LED hanging light. When used as area lighting, they illuminate the table with the most beautiful, and preferably warm, light. They can be great eye-catching pieces in other rooms too, however – be it in the nursery or living room, where they can create inviting pockets of light.

LED floor lamps
Add warmth to a room and make it inviting – easily done with an LED floor light. You probably already have enough room for one, because they stand on the floor and so take up very little space. If the room in question is short on space, you can opt for a hanging lamp too.

LED lighting table lamp

LED table lamps
For pleasant area lighting, LED table lamps are an absolute must. In fact, although the name may suggest otherwise, they aren’t strictly designed just for tables. They're also great placed on a chest of drawers or a sideboard and even look great on a windowsill.  Their compact size makes them suitable for all corners of the home.

LED lighting under cabinet lights

LED furniture lights
Once you have checked general lighting and area lighting off your list, you can now focus on ambient lighting. LED furniture lights allow you to get particularly creative. You can set the scene in your display cabinets and cupboards by creating attractive displays as the backdrop for an evening of TV.

LED lighting string lights

LED string lights
Nothing beats beautiful decorative lighting such as LED string lights and LED rope lights. These lights add that special touch to your living room – and they're not just for Christmas. There are plenty of year-round models that allow you to get really creative.

LED lighting

LED batten lights
Not just for the cellar, LED batten lights add special character wherever they are placed. Used behind coving at the top of the wall, on cabinets or under kitchen cupboards, these lights can provide very pleasant, indirect lighting. LED batten lights are available in different lengths and colour temperatures, which allows you to experiment to your heart’s content.

LED lighting LED candles

LED decorative lights
Decorative lights such as LED candle bulbs and LED curtain lights are brilliant accessories to make your living space even cosier. You can create finishing touches using these lights, which are often battery operated. Thanks to modern LED technology, which consumes very little energy in comparison to other lighting types, you don’t have to worry about leaving your LED candle lit for too long.

Which LED lights are available for outdoors?

For ambient evenings outdoors in the summer or Christmas lights around your entire house in winter – garden lighting is needed all-year-round. Ambience, atmosphere, convenience and safety are aspects that are significantly influenced by well-coordinated outdoor lighting. And the choice is huge:

  • LED wall lights – for entrances and the entire outdoor façade

  • LED ceiling lights – for canopies, summer houses, gazebos and carports

  • LED pendant lights – for sheltered terraces and balconies

  • LED bollard lights – for ensuring safety on your garden paths

  • LED pillar lights – for walls, terraces and paths

  • LED post lights – for well-kept parts of the garden that require expansive lighting

  • LED recessed floor lights – for driveways, flowerbeds, lawns and gravel

  • LED outdoor spotlights – for illuminating house façades and plants

  • LED solar lights – for anyone who doesn’t want to rely on mains electricity

What kinds of LED bulbs are there?

Have you not made the switch yet? Well, now is the time to catch up with the trend! Don’t worry, converting to LED is easy. Practically speaking, LED bulbs are available for almost all common sockets. This means that you just need to look at the sockets on your old, beloved lamps to find an LED bulb that fits. Because there are LED bulbs available to fit older sockets, they’re called retrofit bulbs. This means that you can replace your old traditional light bulbs with an LED bulb.

Tip: For anyone who doesn't want to lose the effect of the filaments of a traditional light bulb, but still wants to enjoy the benefits of an LED, look for LED filament bulbs. Filaments give a beautiful effect in clear bulbs and create a cosy, nostalgic feel.

Are LEDs replaceable?

If your light allows it, then yes, but be aware that there are also LED lights with non-replaceable LEDs. These LEDs are built-in. This is great for compact, innovative designs – and you don’t have to worry about having to replace your light after a short amount of time.

How long do LEDs last?

LED bulbs have a service life of up to 50,000 hours. In other words, if you use an LED bulb for 4 hours each day, the bulb will last over 34 years. Quite a long time!

Which additional features are available for LED lights?

The first step towards modern lighting is made by switching to LED. But even after this, the fun isn’t over. Here are some worthwhile additional features to keep the whole family happy:

  • Dimming the brightness to your heart’s content

LED bulbs can be dimmed, however, you must pay attention to whether they are explicitly designed for this purpose. The product details will indicate whether the LED bulb is dimmable or not. Please keep in mind that not every dimmer is suitable. You can find this information on the packaging or within the technical information.

  • What happens when you dim a bulb that isn’t suitable for dimming?

This can damage the dimmer. The bulb will probably start to flicker and fade, the bulb may not work or will burn out sooner than usual. In the worst-case scenario, dimmers and bulbs can break entirely. Basically, it is best to stick to the product recommendations!

  • Using the remote control

Lie back and conveniently dim your lights. This is a piece of cake if you have a remote control for your lights. You can get this practical feature from our shop by selecting the “Remote control” filter. This will show you models that have features to enhance comfort and convenience even further.

  • Using the entertaining smart features

Fun, luxurious and safety-conscious - don’t miss out on the integrated smart home concept for indoor and outdoor use. You can connect your lights, set timers, control lights using your mobile device from anywhere in the world and make all your lighting dreams come true – especially if you connect your lights to Amazon Alexa or Google Home

  • A variety of colours

Change the colour temperature to suit the mood – a cosy, warm white in the evening and a stimulating cool white in the morning. That’d be nice, wouldn’t it? Well, you can do just that. Just make sure that your LED bulb or light can change its colour temperature. If you want to go one step further, you can even have a multi-colour function. With this, you'll be able to switch your light to all the colours of the rainbow for great effects in your living room.

Which colour temperature is suitable for which situation?

In living rooms, you want cosy lighting to help you relax. For warm white, comfortable lighting, 2,700 to 3,300 kelvins is just right. In rooms like the bathroom, kitchen or office, a cool white, neutral light of 3,300 to a maximum of 5,300 kelvins is recommended. For utility rooms like a cellar or garage, a daylight white is best (over 5,300). Ultimately, these are only recommendations – you can find the >colour temperature you feel the most comfortable with by testing it out. A bulb that can change its colour temperature is ideal for this.
