Imagine you have one of those beautiful but really endless garden paths. You need 5 to 7 path lights for the lighting - and one of them regularly fails (not to mention the other light sources in and around the house). If even the thought of it is annoying, then you shouldn't even think about anything other than an LED pathway light. Because they are maintenance-free for many, many years. Light source replacement - not necessary!
But you don't actually have any of these long distances? Never mind. Then use LED pathway lights anyway. Because in addition to being maintenance-free (which is also really interesting for a single luminaire), there are such advantages:
Depending on the model, there are one of two mounting options:
Some products offer both mounting options. Or the ground spike can be purchased separately. You can find all this information in the product details._
However, the electrician should take care of the installation, i.e. supplying the fixed lights with mains power. Of course, you can create the possibilities for spade-proof placement of the cables in the ground in advance. However, the connections should be made by a specialist.
LED pathway lights are between 60 and 150 cm high. If they were smaller, they would be a plinth light. If they were bigger, they would be a mast light. Path lights are therefore exactly in between. The light source is therefore close enough to the path to produce a bright light area with a brightness of around 300-600 lumen. The light source is also located below eye level. This avoids glare.
And although the light source is below eye level, LED pathway luminaires are not "out of sight". After all, the beautiful new designs want to be seen! They are therefore not only practical lighting, but also a modern design element.
Stainless steel = high quality? Yes, stainless steel does of course have certain advantages, but relying on stainless steel lights without exception is not at all necessary. LED pathway lights with a housing made of plastic or with glass shades can also be of high quality. What's more, stainless steel is really always grey, whereas other materials in black or anthracite look much more modern. In the end, however, the only thing that really counts is whether the light can withstand the requirements for outdoor use. High-quality products from STEINEL or PHILIPS do this - whether stainless steel or not.
But if you still don't want to do without stainless steel, you can rely on the following advantages with this material:
The sensors of an LED pathway light not only ensure convenience, but also economical, environmentally friendly use of the light.
The twilight sensor prevents the light from switching on during the day. The lights switch on automatically at dusk and switch off again at dawn.
Thanks to the motion detector, the light only switches on when you need it. This means: you enter the path - the light switches on. Once you have walked over it, the motion detector automatically switches the light off again. Practical, isn't it?
For the latter to work properly, you must be within the detection range of the motion detector. This means: within the detection angle and the detection range. Usually, 360° angles of coverage are not necessary for path lights, as the light does not have to come on when you approach from the meadow. Optimal are 180-120° for detecting movements on the path. The detector should of course be orientated towards the path.
By the way: With an LED pathway light with motion detector and twilight sensor, the twilight sensor prevents the light from switching on during the day if you enter the detection area.
Electric barbecue, lawnmower, mobile phone or laptop: for all these useful things you need a power socket (no, the mobile phone is of course no longer a corded phone, but you will have to charge it at some point). It's good if you have enough sockets. But admittedly: Most of them are found inside our four walls rather than outside. Not to say: all of them! And who wants to run a long extension cable from the conservatory to the garden table to power their laptop?
LED pathway lights with built-in sockets put an end to the lack of sockets in outdoor areas. The light receives power from the mains anyway. And you can dock your electrical appliances to your pathway light. Very simple and so useful!
Solar lights ... Aren't those decorative earth spikes and colour-changing balls? Yes, too. But not only that. Decorative lights with solar technology have become serious lights. These can provide light on the property in the same way as those lights that are permanently connected to the mains supply.
Nevertheless: Solar lights need solar energy to charge the battery. No sun = no battery charging. And since autumn and winter are the times when you are out and about in the dark the most, and light is therefore particularly necessary here, the following still applies: a fixed connection to the power grid is the most suitable way to obtain completely carefree lighting.
