LED lamps are already a fully-fledged replacement for conventional light sources in many areas. LED lamps have already impressed with their excellent properties, such as durability, maintenance-free operation, high energy efficiency and impact resistance. The dimmable LED lamps that are now on the market have a feature that makes LED lamps perform even better than conventional light sources: they can be dimmed. In principle, LED lamps are not dimmable; only expressly designated LED lamps can be operated with a dimmer. This is something to bear in mind if you want to buy a dimmable LED lamp.
Two problems have been repeatedly criticised in connection with LED lamps: firstly, their light is too artificial and cold, and secondly, they cannot be dimmed. The latter has been eliminated with the development of the dimmable LED lamp. The first problem has also long ceased to be a problem, as LED lamps are now available in various light colours, including warm white. The fact that LED lamps are available in warm white and as dimmable LED lamps makes them a more than worthwhile replacement for the good old "light bulb". The familiar E14 and E27 light bulb versions are also available as dimmable LED versions, replacing the most commonly used light sources in private households. Reflector lamps, such as GU10 or GU5.3, can also be replaced with a dimmable LED lamp.
The energy-saving lamp, which is considered the most energy-efficient light source after the LED lamp, is also available in a dimmable version. However, dimmable energy-saving lamps and dimmable LED lamps differ in some properties: LED lamps are fully dimmable and do not lose their service life through dimming like dimmable energy-saving lamps. Dimmable LED lamps also provide full luminosity and flicker-free light as soon as they are switched on.
