Table Lamps - There’s One Out There For Everyone
Do you want your table lamp to be functional or decorative?
The selection of lights available for dressers, side tables, desks, dining and kitchen tables is vast. When choosing from this range, the most important question to ask is whether you want your table lamp to be functional or decorative - or perhaps both.
If you are taking the decorative route, then you need to consider what style direction you want to take. You will find an overview of our styles under the “table lamps” category in the indoor lighting section.
If additional functions are important to you, make sure that you include them in your search filter to find the perfect table lamp. Think carefully about what you want your light to be able to do. If this includes charging your mobile phone, then you know exactly what to look for – a light with Qi technology or a USB port. If colourful lighting is important to you, look for the word “multicolour” under the “luminous colour” heading in the technical specifications list.

Which light bulb is the right one for my table lamp?
As with all other lights, there are certain models of table lamps that have built-in LED technology. With these lights, you never need to worry about replacing a bulb. There are, of course, also models with replaceable bulbs. You mostly have a choice of either LED bulbs or energy-saving bulbs. Nowadays, the most common, highly-recommended bulbs are LED bulbs.
How many watts should my table lamp be?
With bulbs today – unlike the bulbs of the past – you no longer need to pay attention to watts. This is because wattage refers to energy consumption and not brightness. Since an LED bulb consumes less energy (up to 90 % less) than a traditional light bulb with the same brightness, it is no longer worth comparing the wattage. The value that is used to describe brightness is lumens. This is the unit that you should use.
How may lumens should my table lamp be?
300-400 lumens is sufficient for a table lamp. That’s enough brightness for area lighting. After all, table lamps are not intended to light up the whole room. On the contrary: these lights are typically used to provide comfort and to set lighting accents. 300-400 lumens is also bright enough for reading light. And, because these pleasant lighting features are often placed beside cosy armchairs, they help to create the perfect atmosphere for this activity.
Where is the best place for a table lamp?
Whether placed on a side table, chest of drawers or on the windowsill, table lamps help create beautiful lighting accents for the whole room. If you are less focused on cosiness and more focused on writing or crafting, then you should note: right-handed people should place their desk lamp on the left-hand side, so as not to cast an irritating shadow.
If you are going to be working longer hours, you should turn on a ceiling light in addition to the desk lamp. This ensures that there is not too much of a contrast between the light around your desk and the darker surrounding room, which helps to prevent your eyes from becoming tired.
Are there any dimmable table lamps?
Dimmed lighting in the evening creates a very cosy atmosphere. Touch dimmers are especially handy for this purpose. Just touch the light, and the light intensity decreases in stages. Depending on the model, you may need to gently tap the base, head, or another part of the light. For example, with the famous Costanza light by Luceplan, the touch dimmer is hidden in the subtle aluminium lever.
Are clip-on lights suitable for tables?
A clip-on light can certainly help you to save space. This is especially handy if you have a busy desk full of paperwork. This type of light can also be very useful in numerous other places – such as on a bookshelf, bedside table, or a kitchen shelf. True classics, like the Tolomeo by Artemide, prove that a lighting solution can be practical, but also look amazing.
Is my lampshade washable?
How you clean a lampshade depends on the material. For example, while polycarbonate lampshades can be wiped down with a damp cloth, a duster should be used to gently wipe paper lampshades. Fabric lampshades are usually easy to remove and wash.
