Seen from the outside**, it is very easy to recognise a modern pendant light. You can instinctively distinguish modern design from traditional. Read this guide to find out what "modern" means in optics today.
But there is also a lot of modernity inside a modern hanging lamp: in the light source. You can also find out more about what you need to look out for in this guide.
Modern is simply the opposite of old-fashioned. And you can see that in every pendant light in this category. The trends are (among others) glass lampshades in bright colours and new shapes as well as pendant lights with striking wooden elements.
What's more, the Bauhaus character is making a comeback like never before! Matching the 100. For the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus in 2019, purist, functional pendant lights are all the rage. A futuristic model with eye-catching, e.g. chrome-coloured elements, which nevertheless have a reduced design language, are also part of this trend. And creative designer lights? Follow their very own logic.
But there is another second feature that makes a hanging lamp modern: the lighting technology. Because that is and should inevitably be LED today. LED...
Tips for choosing your new favourite light: Tick the "LED" box in the "Technology" filter to start looking for an LED light straight away. Do you want to browse through the exciting range without any restrictions? With pleasure! And if you have finally discovered a luminaire with sockets that you really want, then simply fit the luminaire with modern LED light sources. This allows you to combine your favourite design with the most advantageous lighting technology on the illuminant market.
Height-adjustable pendant lamps are quite modern (well, the lights used to be able to do this too). However, many beautiful modern pendant lights are not height-adjustable and are not designed for this purpose. For example, because they are simply intended as light-giving room highlights, which are simultaneously impressive and should leave their very own mark on the room. Such pendant lights, if used above the dining table, should be suspended 80-100 cm above the table top.
This provides enough space above your head when you and your guests are sitting opposite each other. And it is also low enough to make the dining table area the centre of the room - and hide everything else. The kitchen unit, for example, which you left with all the unwashed crockery.
We could now claim that a hanging lamp is particularly modern because it is height-adjustable at any time. But the technology behind it is not that modern. They have been around for a very long time. Because changing the light depending on the situation at the dining table (number of guests, atmosphere for eating or entertaining, transformation into a work area, ...) is not a new wish. But it is just as relevant today as it was in the past! This is why modern pendant lights, like many classic pendant lights, are height-adjustable - provided they have the appropriate device. You can recognise height-adjustable, modern pendant lights in the shop by the indication "Is height-adjustable: Yes". This will show you that the selected light has such a device.
With touch dimmer? Do you really want to stretch up to the pendant light? Standing on tiptoe, touching the chrome housing, leaving fingerprints and perhaps even making the luminaire vibrate? We have a much more modern alternative for your modern pendant light: pendant lights with gesture control.
Simply raise your hands under the light - and the integrated sensors will recognise that you have a different brightness in mind. Such innovative control options can be found, for example, in the Blu Sticks from B-Leuchten or some high-end luminaires from BANKAMP. Always check the products for the information "Dimmable: Yes" and "Dimmer: Included" - and read the product text to find out which dimmer or dimming technology the product has.
Do you have a pendant light with socket for E27 bulbs, for example, that you simply don't want to part with? Then why not choose a light source with integrated dimming technology! These can be smart home light sources or light sources with EasyDim technology, for example.
