Furniture lights - practical little helpers and aesthetically pleasing to boot

They are small and inconspicuous. But when they are switched on, you know that it was worth it. Worth buying and installing furniture lights. Because you'll love the result. And there are no limits to your creativity. Some ideas that always look good and are really practical:

  • Simply place surface-mounted furniture spotlights on the living room cupboard as invisible ceiling washlights - you will be delighted by the atmospheric light.
  • Do you love reading and have a large bookshelf? Then show it! It really comes into its own with furniture lights.
  • Can't stop yourself? Do you simply have a real passion for collecting? Then equip your display cabinet with furniture lights and give your favourite pieces a shining stage.
  • Honestly. It's just annoying when you want to fish clothes out of the wardrobe in the morning and can't really see what's available. Furniture lights provide a remedy.
  • Shadow on the worktop? That's not possible! With furniture surface-mounted spotlights, you can tackle any carrot with the utmost precision.

How are furniture lights attached?

There are three different options:

  • Mount a plastic ring on a smooth surface and insert the lights. You don't have to drill holes in your furniture, but you do gain 1-2 cm in height.
  • Drill a blind hole and insert the light with a mounting spring. Then fold down the spring and you're done. However, it takes approx. 5 cm of space next to the luminaire and is visible.
  • Drill a blind hole in which the light clamps itself, so you don't have to deal with any extra height and there is nothing to disturb you apart from the light. This is ideal for attractive display cabinets and shelves.

Far too complicated? Then simply get in touch with our technical advice centre. You will find the contact details below.

What types of furniture lights are there?

Do you need details? Here you go:

Recessed lights are extremely inconspicuous in terms of design and practically disappear into the wood. But in terms of lighting, the wallflowers really go the extra mile. They create the same atmospheric effect as their colleagues, the surface-mounted spotlights and surface-mounted furniture lights.

Surface-mounted spotlights are mounted on furniture - as the name suggests. They provide an atmospheric setting for books, sculptures and anything else you want to present. Simply a super ambient light.

Under-cabinet lights are best placed in the kitchen. After all, your work surface should be optimally illuminated. However, this is often not the case if wall units are in the way of the ceiling light. Then it's best to use under-cabinet lights to ensure a clear view when chopping vegetables. Tip: If you like it simple, you should consider stick-on LED strips. These generate hardly any heat and are perfect for use as furniture lights.

Surface-mounted furniture lights are fitted to or on a piece of furniture. Do not enter. That's why they don't disappear into the cupboard, but take up extra space. What they do: They illuminate the darkest corners and provide appealing mood lighting.

Which lighting technology is suitable for furniture lights?

I'm sure this answer won't surprise you: of course LED **is the lighting technology of choice. The advantages simply outweigh the disadvantages. To name just a few:

  • LED lamps save 60 % electricity compared to halogen lamps. Compared to incandescent lamps even 90 %.
  • LEDs are switch-proof and can be switched on and off frequently without any problems.
  • LEDs only switch on at approx. 50,000 hours flat. Halogen lamps after only 4,000.

In which rooms are furniture lights used?

In principle, wherever there is furniture. From the cellar to the attic. Some ideas:

  • In the kitchen: as under-cabinet lights
  • In the bedroom: to brighten up the wardrobe or set the scene for the bed
  • In the living room: to bathe the display cabinet and bookshelf in appealing ambient light
  • In the children's room: to make the little ones' toy shelves even more inviting.

Do I have to connect furniture lights to the mains?

The choice is yours: **So if you want to do without tangled cables - here you go: Choose a model with a battery. Or would you prefer to rely on the electricity grid? Also good: choose a suitable model. Simply pay attention to this in the item description.

Do furniture lights switch on by themselves?

If you wish, yes. Namely with a motion detector. But they can also be operated manually using a switch. Motion detectors are always practical. Because if you want to quickly grab a suitable T-shirt from the wardrobe, it welcomes you with light as soon as you open it. It also makes the thirsty night-time trip to the kitchen tap more convenient. When you turn the corner, it gets light straight away. Simply practical.

Do I have to pay attention to fire protection labelling?

Until a few years ago, you still had to look out for the fire protection symbol "M". This was the only way to guarantee the safe commissioning of furniture lights - provided they were installed correctly. Labelling is different today. It is no longer necessary. If you have any questions about whether the light you have selected is really suitable for your furniture, simply ask our specialist consultants.
