For LED ceiling washlights with their energy efficiency and lifespan, classic halogen ceiling washlights are no longer any competition. In addition, LED ceiling washlights have developed in directions that would not be possible with conventional light sources. These include, for example, smart home variants, which make features such as colour changes or lighting routines possible via smartphone or voice control.
Halogen lamps were good sources of light for a long time. A high luminous flux combined with 100 per cent colour brilliance was ideal for living spaces. But compared to LEDs, halogen lamps hardly play a role any more. Because high-quality LED light sources ...
As a rule, LED ceiling washlights are products with permanently installed LED boards. Due to the long service life of these products, you will never have to replace the light source again, as they last up to 30 years or more with a daily operating time of 4 hours. It is more likely that you will want to buy a new light in all this time than that the light source will fail!
However, at Lights.co.uk you will also find "classic" ceiling floodlights with sockets in the "LED ceiling floodlights" section, which we supply directly with LED light sources. For example, with high-quality Easydim LED lamps with an E27 base. You can of course replace these lamps.
The energy efficiency label indicates whether the light sources in the ceiling washlight are replaceable. The note "The LED lamps cannot be replaced in the luminaire" indicates that this is a product with permanently installed LEDs that no longer need to be replaced._
A good standard is 800 lumens for the uplight and a further 400 lumens for the integrated reading light.
For 800 lumens, an LED ceiling washer consumes approx. 9 watts, for the 400 lumens on the reading lamp another approx. 5 watts. By comparison, an incandescent lamp would consume a total of 100 watts for this light output - a huge saving.
High-quality LED ceiling washlights sometimes produce even more lumens. The brightness of these lights is usually adjustable via an integrated dimmer. This gives you the right light for every situation - from reading a book to relaxing and dozing off.
Many of them do. In this case, the uplighter combines the indirect light of the "light bowl" at the head with the direct light of the reading lamp. The indirect light supports the general lighting, because the light cast onto the ceiling is reflected and falls softly and glare-free into the room. The reading light, on the other hand, provides appropriate zone lighting - for more complex visual tasks such as reading newspapers or crocheting.
You don't want to do without a practical rotary knob on the frame so that you can adjust the brightness at any time? Best for ceiling washlight and reading light separately? That's right. And of course you can also expect this convenience with LED ceiling washlights.
Look for the note "Dimmer: Included" in the product details at Lights.co.uk . The LED ceiling washer can then be dimmed without any problems or external accessories.
But: LED lighting technology works and dims slightly differently to classic halogen lamps. For this reason, not every product has a dimmer and cannot be dimmed with external dimmers. If you are in any doubt, please ask our specialist advisors. You will find the contact details below.
A lot is possible today in terms of lighting technology. A flowing colour change from red to green to blue, for example. Or a change in light from a cosy warm white to a more functional universal white. But for LED ceiling washlights it is still more of a special feature and not a standard.
A tip for anyone who wants to get more out of their lighting: The ranges of the leading smart home lighting manufacturers also include smart home LED ceiling washlights, e.g. the ZigBee controllable Q Smart Home lights from Paul Neuhaus. The integrated light sources can be easily operated via smartphone and offer countless possibilities from colour changes to programmable light routines.

As a rule, LED ceiling washlights have a fixed height, so please note the height specified in the product details at Lights.co.uk and adjust the product to the size of your room. What is adjustable in the vast majority of cases, however, is the reading light which, attached to a flex arm, can be moved into the correct position at any time. This means you never have to align the newspaper with the light again, but instead align the light with the newspaper.
**And let's be honest: this is what lighting comfort should really look like!
