Almost everyone looks forward to a hot summer. But when it is there, people often moan. Unfortunately, we can't all spend the whole day in the outdoor pool. In the office and at home, you're always grateful for a cool breeze. The easiest exercise for ceiling fans. The practical air swirlers are also available as an all-in-one solution with a light.
What to look out for in a ceiling fan with light function?
Just a breath of fresh air is not enough for you? Then you're either a fan of additional features or you only have a ceiling connection, right? No problem at all. Why does a ceiling fan cool?
Cold air - like air conditioning - it doesn't actually do anything. Even if it might feel like it. So how does the pleasant cooling effect of a ceiling fan work? Quite simply: by circulating the air. This creates a pleasant cooling effect on the skin.
Why can you save on heating costs with a ceiling fan?
Do you know the phenomenon? Does the warm air build up under the ceiling in winter and do you have cold feet despite the heating being on? With a ceiling fan in winter mode you can remedy the situation and save up to 30 per cent on heating costs. But it must also be explicitly suitable for winter use. To do this, simply select "including forward and return" as a filter in the shop. So you can be sure that your model will also be good for winter.
In which direction must a ceiling fan rotate?
It all depends. Would you like to use it in summer to avoid sweating? Or in winter to save on heating costs? In forward running the fan is equipped for summer, in winter reverse running is ideal. The warm air that would otherwise accumulate under the ceiling is thus distributed throughout the room. So that you get even more out of your warm heating air.
Are there ceiling fans with remote control?
The choice is yours. Would you like to control your ceiling fan using the wall switch? Or is it better to use a remote control? You can select an appropriate filter in the shop. This will show you your favourite models. With a remote control you can not only select between speed levels. Many ceiling fans with lamp also offer a function for changing the light colour. If a remote control is not your thing, a wall switch regulates the speed levels just as well.
Which ceiling fans are quiet?
It should be pleasantly cool in summer. But not at the expense of peace and quiet. So you're right to ask yourself: Which ceiling fans run quietly and don't disturb? We can reassure you: Our ceiling fans are generally extremely quiet. At low speeds you hear almost nothing, at higher speeds only the wind noise. Many customers even use our ceiling fans in the bedroom.
How do you hang ceiling fans correctly?
In principle, ceiling fans can be installed anywhere on the ceiling. Important: a free power outlet must be available. Ideally, the ceiling fan should be positioned in the centre of the room and replaced with the existing ceiling light. If the old light is to remain in place, the ceiling fan is fitted to the side of it. A separate power outlet must be installed for this purpose.
Tips and tricks for implementation:
The technical data indicates whether installation on sloping ceilings is possible. This usually works via a ball joint.
When positioning the ceiling fan, a minimum distance from walls, furniture and curtains must be maintained. This is specified in the instructions. Roof beams and sloping ceilings can also disrupt the air flow.
Hair and scarves safe? This is guaranteed with an installation height from 2.3 metres above the floor.
Important: the ceiling must be able to support the rotating motor. The weight of the running ceiling fan is higher than that of the stationary model.
You should allow your new ceiling fan to "run in" for at least 24 hours at a low setting. During the first few hours, the ceiling fan may make a noise. Swaying and rocking is also possible. But that should soon be gone. Otherwise, simply balance the wings better.
How do I balance the blades of the ceiling fan?
The ceiling bracket must be firmly and evenly screwed to the ceiling. It is best to check this with a spirit level. Some models are supplied with balance weights for the sashes. Simply attach them according to the instructions. Alternatively, you can even do this with coins.
Are ceiling fans unhealthy - can you catch a cold?
A cooling breeze is particularly welcome in the summer heat when you're sweating profusely. However, the same applies to fans and air conditioning systems: Protect yourself from excessive draughts. Do not allow air to be blown directly into your back for hours on end. There should be a certain distance. The following applies to the bedroom: Lightly clothed without a blanket, you could cool down overnight if the fan is running at full speed at the same time. If you're unlucky, you'll wake up with a blocked nose and a scratchy throat. So it's better to always cover up when the fan is in play at night.
Are there ceiling fans with a timer?
Do you want to fall asleep with a cool breeze in your bedroom but not wake up with a cold? One option is to buy a fan with a timer. You can programme it so that it switches off by itself after a cool hour at the end of the summer evening, when you have long since fallen asleep. This can be programmed using a remote control, for example.
