TOM DIXON - EXTRAVAGANCE AND IMPRESSIVELY COMPLEX DESIGN

Tom Dixon, born in Tunisia in 1959, grew up in London with his English father and his French-Latvian mother. In the early 1980s, he started his career with performances on the stage of the Titanic nightclub in London, during which he welded metal together to make seating furniture. As a result, he became known as a "talented, untrained designer". He broke off his studies at the Chelsea School of Arts in London to play bass in the band "Funkapolitan".

Our range of lights from Tom Dixon

In 2002, Tom Dixon founded "Tom Dixon. The Company", where he has since developed product and interior design for clients such as Swarovski, De Vecchi and Cappellini, as well as for fashion designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Westwood, and also manufactures and sells furniture and furnishings.

Tom Dixon's striking, multifunctional luminaire design "Jack Light" was honoured with the Millennium Mark Award in 1997. A stackable light sculpture, suitable for sitting and can be used as a flexible design lamp. According to Tom Dixon, the design was inspired by a child's way of looking at things: There is no right and wrong. The luminaire can therefore be rotated and inserted as required.

The famous designer's works, which relate to lighting, furniture and other aspects of interior design, can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, among others. Tom Dixon is now regarded as a star of the design scene and is one of Britain's most important designers.
