Martinelli Luce stands for many decades of experience in the production of luminaires and lighting systems. In addition to a diverse portfolio of residential lighting, the traditional Italian company also offers a wide range of technical lighting systems for office buildings, shops, cinemas, hotels, museums and shopping centres, as well as ideas for outdoor lighting.
Martinelli Luce was founded in 1950 by Elio Martinelli. After his death in 2004, his daughter Emiliana Martinelli took over the traditional company based in Lucca. Like her father in the past, she also works as a luminaire designer herself. Emiliana's son Marco is now also working at Martinelli Luce, so that nothing stands in the way of a successful and long-term future for the family business.
At Martinelli Luce, collaboration with renowned names from the design scene is part of the company's tradition. The Italian lighting manufacturer has already worked with Gae Aulenti, Michel Bouquillon, Sergio Asti, Luc Ramael, Marc Sadler, Karim Rashid, Angelo Micheli, Brian Sironi, Marco De Santi as well as Studio Lucchi & Biserni, Studio Orlandini, Studio Natural, Studio 4P1B and many other partners.
In recent years and decades, Martinelli Luce has received numerous awards for its work. A selection of the prizes recently awarded:
Martinelli Luce focusses on simple shapes, but always with profound potential for interpretation. Multifaceted series and classics have been created over the decades, giving living spaces an individual and stylish touch and providing pleasant lighting.
The Cobra table lamp by designer and company founder Elio Martinelli is a homage to the sixties. The design piece has long since achieved cult status - and not only that: the luminaire has also made star appearances. She was seen on the big screen in the well-known film Men in Black III. Made from synthetic resin, it impresses with its special, understated design. The rotating head makes it possible to change the shape according to taste, so that when turned outwards it actually resembles a cobra.
The Pipistrello by designer Gae Aulenti is available as a table or floor lamp. Born in Udine in 1927, the Italian trained in Milan and is closely associated with industrial and architectural design as well as interior design. The luminaire is composed of a metal base, which is available in various colours, and an opal white lampshade with a four-part design for an attractive appearance. A telescopic device made of satinised stainless steel connects these two elements and makes the luminaire variable in height. The Pipistrello has won several design awards and is still a popular classic that has been exhibited in renowned design museums around the world.
Nature also played a role in the creation of this luminaire family - or more precisely, the animal kingdom: the Colibri luminaire series is modelled on an elegant hummingbird. It is perfect for the targeted spotlighting of individual objects and objects because its small LED spot can be individually aligned. In addition to being nominated for the German Design Award 2012, the Colibri has already been honoured with the iF Product Design Award 2011.
