INGO MAURER - THE POETRY OF LIGHT

In the eyes of a whole generation of designers and design enthusiasts, Ingo Maurer is more than just a creative mind: he is regarded as a poet and magician of light - a modern pioneer and nostalgic at the same time. Various awards for individual lights as well as his entire life's work emphasise this. The well-known designer designs, produces and distributes his lighting ideas worldwide through Ingo Maurer GmbH. The freedom to realise ideas in his own company without compromise is reflected in the unusual lighting ideas that characterise all of Ingo Maurer's work and the work of the designers who work for him.

Ingo Maurer - History & Milestones

Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer's career began in the sixties with the creation of the legendary Bulb table lamp. He soon became a sought-after designer internationally. As a result, the number of employees grew steadily, so that today a team of around 60 people is behind the company name Ingo Maurer GmbH.

The entry into low-voltage technology at the beginning of the 1980s is considered a milestone in the company's history - the YaYaHo low-voltage system brought great international recognition.

Another important stage in the company's history was the transition from the pure design of luminaires and lighting systems to enquiries from the project sector involving lighting planning and interior design work.

Ingo Maurer - Company philosophy

Always at the cutting edge and sometimes ahead of his time - Ingo Maurer can certainly lay claim to this description. For him, beauty, originality and functionality go hand in hand, which is always expressed in his ideas. Ingo Maurer is also regarded as a pioneer of modern technical developments: not only did he incorporate low-voltage technology into his creative ideas in the 1980s, but he also discovered LED technology in the 1990s and OLED technology for his lighting creations a few years ago.

  • Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany for Lifetime Achievement 2010
  • Honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art 2006
  • Oribe Award 2003

Ingo Maurer - Series and classics

The classic Bulb luminaire

The Bulb table lamp puts the light bulb centre stage by presenting the light source in an oversized light bulb made of high-gloss chrome-plated metal and crystal glass. According to the designer, he was inspired by a beautiful 15-watt light bulb that he discovered lying on his bed on the ceiling of his hotel room. With this homage to the light bulb, which until then had always been concealed by lampshades, Ingo Maurer created a classic luminaire that made it all the way to the Museum Of Modern Art in New York.

Lucellino luminaire family

Since 1992, the Lucellino luminaire range has been continuously expanded and further developed. Initially, Ingo Maurer produced a special light source exclusively for this lighting idea, which can only be used in Lucellino models. Decorated with two handmade goose feather wings, the Lucellino has a light, lively and graceful appearance. It is available both as a wall light and as a table light and is now also available with an LED light source with the appearance of a light bulb. The Birdie's Nest ceiling and pendant light with goose feather wings are regarded as further developments of the Lucellino - both originally with the low-voltage bulbs specially produced for the Lucellino light family and now also available as LED versions.

Ricchi Poveri luminaire family

I Ricchi Poveri is still a young lighting family from 2014. It is available in the versions "Toto", "Monument for a Bulb", "Fly", "Five Butterflies" and "Bzzzz" and is guaranteed to attract curious glances and interested enquiries. A light source specially manufactured for this range of luminaires - a low-voltage halogen bulb - is used in some models and creates a pleasant lighting atmosphere. In contrast, the I Ricchi Poveri - Fly is equipped with state-of-the-art LED technology and is only available on the market as a limited edition.

The classic Zettel'z luminaire

Ingo Maurer created a classic that is particularly popular with creative designers in 1997 with the Zettel'z 5, followed by the Zettel'z 6 in 1998. A combination of printed and blank slips of Japanese paper can be individually attached to the luminaire - there is plenty of room for your own sketches and messages. Two lamps in the centre of the Zettel'z 5 illuminate the high-quality paper and provide a pleasant light.

In contrast to the Zettel'z 5, the Zettel'z 6 offers even more space for your own sayings, notes, poems or small drawings and only requires one light source. However, if you are looking for direct downward light, you should opt for the Zettel'z 5.
