The HAY brand was founded in 2002 in Denmark, a country rich in tradition. In collaboration with top contemporary designers, the two founders Mette and Rolf Hay created indoor and outdoor lights for a new generation of lighting users and enthusiasts.
"We have always tried to focus on the people who were going to use the products, and we have always tried to design products for the life they live."- Rolf Hay.
HAY luminaires are in tune with the spirit of the times in that they are not only application-oriented, but also emphasise personal well-being. A luminaire design which, for all its functionality, also reinterprets the familiar, creates little moments that have a positive influence on everyday life.
Since the company was founded in 2002, HAY's daily work has been characterised by four key values.
HAY is a love of design and a commitment to enriching the lives of users at every moment. Light emphasises the moment - or creates new experiences through innovation.
The relationship of the luminaire to everyday requirements is a basic ingredient for the HAY designers. The overriding design premise is: "The simplest solution is usually the best."
HAY transcends the local borders of Denmark - it is an international company. The synergy of the different minds, backgrounds and skills ensures new, fresh ideas.
Sustainability is at the centre of HAY's lighting design. High-quality, local processing and timelessness result in products that will stay with us for a long time.
All HAY designers share the company's aspiration to create relevant, original products that are needed.
The works of the trained furniture designer and interior architect from Serbia are part of exhibitions all over the world. Ana Kraš has designed the Bonbon lighting series for HAY, among others. The Bonbon lamp is made by hand and has a graceful, soft cotton shade with harmoniously interlocking colour segments. A real living room lighting object!
French designer Inga Sempé is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) in Paris. Her work is characterised by lightness, unmistakable personality and tactful design. One example is their Matin luminaire with a graceful pleated shade, combined with an elegant, fine brass frame and modern LED technology.
George Nelson (1908-1986) was an influential American designer in the early days of modern design. The trained architect and visual artist often orientated himself on the creations of nature when designing an object. An exemplary masterpiece is his Bubble luminaire series, which combines sophisticated design and a graceful, diffuse lighting effect in the most interesting way.
Pierre Charpin has been incorporating his artistic streak into his object design since the early 1990s. This turns a simple industrial product into a stylish furnishing object. One example is his PC light. Its simple formal vocabulary contains artistic sensuality - and the HAY-typical application reference: the base of the downlight-like luminaire contains a dimmer that allows the LED light to be adjusted as desired.
