A shining piece of the puzzle in the global design scene: the family-run company GUBI from Copenhagen enriches international interiors with timeless and luxurious lighting & furniture.
Founded in 1967, the company remains firmly in family hands today: Managing Director Jacob Gubi Olsen is the son of the two founders Lisbeth and Gubi Olsen. With creative vision and bold intuition, he brings together the work of respected designers as well as up-and-coming new talents.
GUBI brings together icons of the past with the classics of tomorrow. The result is a collection that spans around 100 years of history. Quality work is always the focus of the Danish design house.
Designer team: Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup have worked together for most of their careers. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, they worked for the Finnish Arktikum Museum and the harbour area in Elsinore, among others.
They won the Danish industrial design competition with the Semi pendant light designed in 1968. The striking, arched, enamelled metal shade creates a cone-shaped light for exquisite dining areas and luxury kitchens.
All-round architect: After studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, the architect and designer Louis Weisdorf worked in graphic, interior and industrial design as well as on recreational areas, amusement parks and most areas of the construction industry.
He first designed the sculptural Multi-Lite luminaire series in 1972. It is a timeless interior element from the golden era of Danish design. The characteristic shape with the swivelling shades allows the shades to be rotated individually for a completely personalised lighting installation.
A pioneer of Danish design: Greta Magnusson Grossman opened her own studio after studying at the Stockholm art institution Konstfack. Her work was diverse and included industrial design, interior design and architecture.
With the filigree Gräshoppa lighting series created in 1947, the designer, who died in 1999, created a monument for eternity. A characteristic feature is the tripod stand, which is tilted backwards, giving the luminaire an almost lively expression.
